Welcome to the Department of Public Health

The Department of Public Health is part of the University of Oxford's Medical Sciences Division, located at the Old Road Campus in Headington. The Department of Public Health has a distinguished record of research with a number of renowned research groups and units providing a strong environment for multi-disciplinary research. In the 2008 national Research Assessment Exercise, 65% of the Department’s research was awarded world-leading and internationally excellent ratings.
Our areas of expertise include global health research, healthcare epidemiology, health economics, bioethics, infectious disease and cancer epidemiology, perinatal and occupational epidemiology, measurement of health status and health outcomes, cardiovascular disease prevention, health systems, and evidence synthesis.
In addition to our research activities, we are home to the MSc in Global Health Science. Students also come here to undertake research for DPhil and MSc research degrees. Formal teaching is provided for medical students, at both clinical and preclinical levels, and Public Health doctors and specialists in training.
